The combination of endobiogeny and family constellations
For decades, your hormones were doing a job you never saw.
Quietly absorbing the anxiety. The identity shifts. The grief you hadn’t processed. The old trauma. Holding all of it so your nervous system didn’t have to meet it alone.
Then the buffer lifts.
And suddenly the same email, the same conflict, the same ordinary stress — lands harder. Not because you’ve become more anxious as a person. Because estrogen feeds GABA, your brain’s calming chemistry, and as it declines, that calm gets harder to access.
This is biology. Not character.
But here’s what nobody tells you: it’s not one wave of “something is wrong.” It’s five distinct layers — anxiety, identity, grief, relational strain, old trauma — stacked on top of each other and finally asking to be met. Named separately, each one becomes workable.
And this is exactly where I live in my work. Not choosing between “it’s hormones” and “it’s deeper” — because both are true, always.
