I never even knew them

I hear this all the time in sessions. A grandmother who died before you were born. An uncle no one talks about. A baby lost before you arrived. "How can they affect my life? I never knew them."

You don't need to have met someone to be connected to them. You belong to the same family system, and in that system, everyone has a place, whether they're remembered or forgotten, celebrated or excluded.

What wasn't grieved, what was hidden, what was too painful to feel, doesn't simply disappear. It moves forward. Research in epigenetics suggests that the effects of stress and trauma can leave marks that echo across generations. In Family Constellations, we see it in the loyalties, patterns, and repetitions that show up in our lives without any apparent reason.

The same fear. The same kind of relationship. The same exile, the same loss, the same silence.

This isn't a curse. It's an invitation. What was carried unconsciously can be seen, honored, and released. And often, the moment we acknowledge someone who was forgotten, something in us softens and finally finds its place.

You may never have met them. But they are part of your story, and healing them is part of healing you.

Have you ever felt like you were carrying something that wasn't yours?

With love,
Marine Sélénée
